Insomnia!

She sleeps, without sleeping
The dull light of dusk, or is it dawn;
penetrates and invades her troubled mind
Her thoughts infuse an enigma of the past;
obscured, twisted, tangled, confused and distorted
Deja vu, but in reverse
A guilt-riddled perspective subjects her to a pain she has felt before
The hand of hindsight has been dealt and cast

Surely, the murky pool will become clear this time over
Faces and places of the past entwine and mingle with those of the present
Relationships become elusive and undefined
Colours radiate and words linger longer
Her eyes are weary...
she looks for meanings or at least some kind of solace

Questions begin to cross the realms of consciousness
She hears her mind ask itself "Am I dreaming?"
Rudely the trance of slumber is broken...
her focus redirected and emerges within the hypnotic rhythm of the rain
To no avail, she struggles to reclaim and return to the plain her mind was on
Her body shivers as the sun once again, predictably, rises
So too... she knows this unsolved nightmare will return again
