Beauteous Books

Sing to me, oh book of poetic verse
Make me your scholar of poetry
Tantalise me with your stanzas
Perplex me with your odes and laments
Caress my soul with your rich tapestry of words

Oh speak to me, sacred manuscript of old
Whisper to me your truths
Tell of your forebodings
Divulge to me your wisdom
From which I may glean and learn

Narrate to me, fictitious novel
Channel me through your twists of plot
Evoke in me, sentimental attachment to characters
Entice me with every page
Allow me to live an alternate fate

Guide me and inform me, journal of knowledge
Explain and disclose facts, of which I'm unaware
Dispel myth, and account to me historical realities
Change my perception of the world
Educate me, so I may nurture an informed opinion

Allure my inner wanton... passionate read of vice
Enable me to delve into the realms of erotic fantasy
Quench my desire to be aroused
Distract me from my wasteland of carnal urges
Rekindle the embers of scorching trysts past

Entertain me, bestseller, with laughter and autobiographical quirks
Foster a sense of intimacy between us
Walk me through your life and challenges
Share with me your deepest fears and times of elation
Allow me to know someone... I otherwise may not have met

Make a storyteller of me, archaic fable of youth
Envelop my offspring in wonders I once knew
Lead them to fairy-tale abodes that I did once frequent
Awaken imagination through vocabulary rich with rhyme
Soothe them to dreamful sleep, steeped in make-believe galore

Without the joy of books, my life would have been stale and bereft
Awe, lost within the dredge of the mundane
Experiences never witnessed or understood
Emotions never encouraged or realised
Thoughts never discovered or attuned

A pliable muse to govern with fine artistry
Debbie Razey 2014

life A’s Tapestries

The rich tapestry of life is appliquéd with music and laughter
Beautified by love, fulfilment, solace and belonging
Darned with alcohol or our vice of preference
Torn through anguish, grief, jealousy, hate and despair

Illuminated with vivid threads of hope, dreams, poetry and wonder
Patched with loyalty and dedication of friends and family
Decorated with vanity and our propensity for ego-driven pursuits
Embellished through hindsight, desire and wishful thinking
Embroidered with depictions of heartbreak, rapture and memories

The Warp; it is the sin and regret hidden discreetly beneath the weft
The Weft; it is the moment of achievement and pride for all to see
These interlaced threads pass back and forth as doth fate through time
The artistry; exhibiting emblems of trust, kindness and peace
Delicately woven in are allegories open to the voyeur's interpretation
When completed it is adorned upon the walls of endless time
A magnificent record of existence for all there to perceive

Upon wanton page
Endless, obscure, ramblings set free
Falling from her troubled mind into the great abyss

The Perfect Disguise (Fibonacci Poem)

The Perfect Disguise

Desire burns
She needs to be touched
Hedonism rules her fantasies
The lost, shy girl; demeanour is the perfect disguise!

Debbie Razey 2014

What lies beneath and behind enduring love?

What lies beneath and behind enduring love?

A rock that can be manipulated and sculpted but does not chip
A tree bough that supports life and can bend but does not break
A diet that sustains but also provides nutrients needed to thrive
A well that never dries up but needs to be replenished
A signpost that gives a choice but still guides you home
A contradiction, a promise, a secret, a surprise!
A drink that intoxicates but also quenches thirst
A child in its naivety, providing wisdom in its actions
A song that resonates, marks a memory and becomes a friend
A pair of old, worn, comfy slippers; welcomed as the day ends
An addiction that either makes or breaks you!
An act of forgiveness, acceptance, trust, appreciation and respect
Love is all of these things and more
However without it, of one thing I'm sure.
Life would have been only an experience and not truly felt by my soul!

Forest (Fibonacci Poem)

lost, deep
in our own
Beneath cascading forest light
Where elves and pixies do play; let's regress to childhood

Tresses (Fibonacci Poem)

Howling wind
Frost bite fingertips
Buffeted cheeks; icicle nose
Her raven tresses heedlessly tango with the wind
Debbie Razey 2014

She sits awkwardly huddled in a corner of a back street, run down, ramshackled cafe
Hiding from the world that she finds so intolerably unfair and so deeply cruel
Disheveled and damp from her encounter with the sky... that just would not wait

Her gaze wanders wistfully and becomes transfixed upon the dirty windows where the rain droplets descend
Using her headphones in order to retreat further, she tunes into the music where she wishes to escape
Immediately she is baffled and hypnotised by how the melody makes the rain drops fervently dance
Pirouetting, cascading, tumbling gracefully towards one another where they briefly have a dalliance and merge;
dividing, multiplying, creating reflective tracks... patterns within the grime that lingers there

Within her is stirred an ugly intense emotion from which she is captive and wishes to be set free
The droplets fall slowly, effortlessly; if only like them, she too could flow without fear
The aroma of the sweet coffee fills the air; she closes her eyes to be alone with her thoughts
The melody intensifies, hairs bristle on her neck; infact she swears she can hear the cello cry...
the slender, sensual bow torturing the cello with its relentless, rhythmic sweet caress

Her heart begins to palpitate and, of her breathing, she becomes paranoid and acutely conscious
The music engulfs her and smothers her, leaving her spluttering and gasping for breath
She must leave here, she cannot stay... there is no solace to be found for her here

Unfed, she flees the cafe and rejoins the rain and its welcomed cold, stark reality check
Her pace quickens; she knows not from what she is running or indeed running to
Wind through her hair, moisture on her cheeks, she is invigorated... she is once again alive

Her stomach untwists and her thoughts rewind, to a place that she once considered home
His eyes burn in her brain and she searches for him hopelessly in the crowds, delusional and in vain
Her head aches; her mind, it spins... how could he, why, what else could she have done?
Was this always to be her fate; her destiny to walk these lonely, unforgiving streets alone?

His ghost haunts her heart, steals the pleasure from each day; even sours and spoils the food that she tastes
She is lost, yet wants never to be found, as to forget him would be unbearable... the greatest
 tragedy of all
She hears herself cry out his name but it's futile... as the wind and the music carry her cry gently away

A Journey in Literacy

A Journey in Literacy

When we travelled in metaphors;
we got lost in the irony

So we followed the map of allegory
and deciphered the route of an anagram

Then we refuelled with amplification
but the prices were hyperbole

Next we accelerated through alliteration;
saving time skipping through asyndeton

Only to break down after the first stanza;
so we then hitched a ride with an Archetype

Carry On (Fibonacci Poem)

Carry On
Tightrope; fear
Walking on eggshells
Dodging oncoming obstacles
Avoiding the inevitable calamity

Debbie Razey 2014

If only I knew how I felt but yet I say "relieved"
Who knows, who cares, but all I could do was leave
Maybe it's all in God's big design
Pawns fashioned into us, mankind
Coincidence, fate, karma or convenient excuse
Why is it that only pain acts as my clarification muse?

Times have passed and times will come
All I can do is journey on
Through the highs, the lows and across the plains
Erasing and suppressing the emotion that has stained
Just as you think you've got it right
Along comes more arduous and sleepless nights

An '80s Mother's Cure (Fibonacci Poem)

An '80s Mother's Cure

Chronic Pain (Fibonacci Poem)

Chronic Pain

Mentally torments
Wavers for no one; no respite
Holds the inflicted hostage within his own body
Debbie Razey 2014

The Test

The Test

If my soul was bare
or I bared to you my soul
Would you clothe me in your sweet protection?

If my body was given
or I gave to you my body
Would you reciprocate and cherish with affection?

If my heart was broken
or I broke my heart to you
Would you mend and fix the dissection?

If my mind was worried
or I told you my worries
Would you help me, giving your contemplation?

If my self was lost
or I was to lose my self in you
Would you guide and teach me navigation?

Could you; can you be trusted not to mock?
Would you; will you forever be my rock?

Break Out! (Fibonacci Poem)

Break Out!

Dress code
Hard hat, overalls
Take off; shroud of conformity
Fly free as a bird; in your true untainted splendour

Debbie Razey 2014

Time gently falls and empties within our own individual hourglass of life
Its sand penetrates sharply, our exposed war wounds of love as deep as a knife
The sun never fails to rise and the breeze temporarily soothes the pain
The ocean waves mesmerise with warnings of that, which we know we should refrain
The dawn birds bring us welcomed solace with their melodic, innocent, heartfelt song
Oh how do we continually manage to misconstrue the obvious and get things so wrong?

Beware, Sirens Call! (Fibonacci Poem)

Beware, Sirens Call!

allure; hypnotic!
Beneath the iridescent waves,
Sirens call; watery dalliance with death awaits

Wonder (Fibonacci poem)

as a child
Moonbeams and Rainbows
Snowflakes, fire, waterfalls, the sea
Sunsets, bubbles, butterflies; all wondrous, all free!

Fluorescent lighting has been blamed
Effervescent young that won't be tamed
Adolescents have been named and shamed

Features of modern day life that we need to tackle
Teachers feeling that their job is merely to herd cattle
Preachers appear to be losing the 'choose good' battle

Diets have been scrutinised, limited, changed and disregarded
Giants of media are quick to point their fingers; surmising where it started
Riots against police, the government and global powers have been targeted

Where eventually will this chaos, hate, intolerance, 'blame culture' absurdity end
Care and consideration are what's needed; truly being a neighbour, comrade, friend
Fair laws, 'playing fields', are required; love, peace, empathy, compassion... in order to mend

Entombed (Cinquain)

ourselves in walls
of safe - security
Blocking out the majestic sky

Debbie Razey 2014

The Struggle

Struggle! Is that the word that epitomises how I feel?
A head, filled with a promise of a future, left to reel.
Hindsight, only highlights missed opportunities and time wasted
Success and achievement, a fruit which I still have not tasted
Ungrateful for all I do have, weighs heavy in my heart
Yearning for something better, but where do I start?
Peace of mind, fulfilment and pride in the sense that I was here.
My babes in arms deserve better and, as their parent, for them I fear
Nurture, inspire, love and cherish are what I wish most to accomplish now
Through graft, worry and disillusion; I am confused as to how
Trapped, struggling and almost defeated, through trying to provide.
Hope the essence of what I strive to achieve for my family, will not prove to divide

The Act! (Fibonacci)

The Act!

cheer and joy
Beneath lurks the pain
Etched through sadness and worry's knife
Concealed with trickery, a veneer; sad eyes blatant

Debbie Razey 2014

The Harlequin

He came to her like a harlequin but acutely attractive despite the flamboyant guise
His playful teasing a welcomed distraction from her lonely and tortured demise
His words and sentiments lifted her self-imagery with his sweet patter and gentle tone
He dulled the pain, and tamed her fear, opening her up to a world that she had once known
But apart from the compliments, stolen moments, chaotic but pleasing innuendos and banter
She knew it could never be; a figment of fantasy, as security and love he could not grant her

He was promised and bound to another as was she; the future was planned and expected
The winds of attraction danced tauntingly between them, whispers of ecstasy and pleasure detected
The dalliance that could never be was only ever to be imagined within her troubled consciousness
These illusions and desires she must eradicate, deny, condemn and imprison concealing her brokenness

Same (Fibonacci)

We are one
Love beneath the skin
Humankind is but one species
Protect, nurture, empathise with your fellow Brethren

Music Transcends!

Music Transcends!

The bleak lights penetrate the soul of an empty club
The sound check looms eerily in the smog through an over used Sub
The base growls its low tones, the guitar pierces the light
The tune begins abruptly causing the onlooker a fright
The drums entrance the listener as the singer begins to croon
The promise of what is to come infiltrates their minds like cotton in a loom
The audience silences and awaits with anticipation and baited breath
The gig commences, cascading into an enigma of calm and intoxicates by stealth
It touches, caresses, transcends the people who have paid to listen
Beads of perspiration and the light of joy within the eyes of the performers glistens
Is this what it feels like and is perceived to have made it?
The band can only wish and pray to realise this actually and sustain it!

The Chameleon

To all, you become the one whom they convince themselves they so absolutely or desperately need.
The one whom they lust for, with wanton, deepest desire and unquenchable masochistic greed
The one who understands, empathises; the most kindred soul and the only one who is like-minded.
The player, the patter merchant, the one whose manifest declared is so perfect and beyond splendid.
You change, you alter, you penetrate deep into their sub-conscious realms and then their souls
Once they're smitten and reverently hypnotised, you begin to further puppeteer, orchestrate and effortlessly cajole.
Your personality dedicates itself to mirror theirs; reflecting their hopes, dreams, fantasies and fears.
Painting a canvas of lies that will bewitch and romanticise with the seduction of fake sincerity and tears.
Your alluring façade, so beautifully illustrated, is a triumph, a masterpiece and a success indeed!
However, through conjure, you have inadvertently robbed yourself of a true existence which is a vital need

To a child time is an enigma,
something to learn and be understood.
The moon and sun rising - a Phenomenon.
A vital lesson synonymous with parenthood.

To adolescents, time is a dictator;
controlling their whimsical desires and dreams.
Their hedonistic follies turning them into vindicators;
demanding more time for freedom and the end of regimes.

To adults in their prime, time is a routine;
a ritual undertaken without any contemplative thought.
Speed is what's required; they are not expected to glean.
Convenience and time-saving devices are frequently sought

To senior citizens, time is precious;
must not be squandered and should be relished at all cost.
For death is coming closer and of their end they are anxious
Their regrets weigh heavy as their times of youth are lost

So should we be saving, killing or defying time?
Or luxuriating, revelling and basking in the sublime?

Debbie Razey 2014

The stones; they loom dominantly against the night's murky sky, awash with a purple stain.
Such a megalith or henge is of an age gone by, of a generation lost but yet they endure and remain
Shrouded in mystery, steeped in the undisclosed, cloaked in legend, in ancient myths of old.
From mouth to mouth throughout the dawns of time; their legacy, is now a story untold

Oh why did our ancestors build such triumphs; these magnificent structures of wonder and awe?
Our minds hypothesise, deliberate; search futilely for archeological clues and aspire to learn more.
I sense a magnetic pull towards them; my spirit, my soul commanded as if within them I do belong
Betwixt the stones, the wind moans her sweet melody and hypnotises with familiar, alluring song

In times of crisis I feel compelled to make a pilgrimage, so as to find some needed solace there
Their calming, gentle energy invigorates my sense of well-being and with me their peace they share
The sovereignty of these majestic landmarks still evades comprehension and civilisations through time
We can only know what we observe; how beautifully they channel light, running accordant to lay lines

Even though we have unearthed the scattered remnants of our forefathers and their illustrious artefacts
Despite us and what we've dug, burned, plundered; these sites still stand, largely, bewilderingly intact
Perhaps we are missing the point; they were not built for what we perceive as a practical function.
Maybe, instead, their essence remains untainted, pure, mystical and beyond our presumption

I believe this is how it was meant to be; so through them we can acknowledge their celestial grace
To be inspired and enlightened by their divine reverie, within such a philosophical place.
