Advent Wreath

A ring of wood, four candles tall
A crown of fir upon the door
Pine knotted branches interweave
Red ribbon, Laurel... Holly leaf

For Christ's soon return we are bown
Symbol of victory the crown
Spherical... ethereal glow
"Crown of Thorns" ribboned-blood now flows

Four advent weeks, the four seasons
Four cardinal virtues... the reason
Bright flames bring Christmas peace and hope
Evergreens... sign of life and hope

Evergreens.... God's eternity
Laurel... thwarts sin and suffering
Holly... the thorns which Christ endured
Strong Fir trees... in God we're assured

Again we await Christ the King
Forgiveness, faith, joy and teachings;
Each candle we burn represents
On the sacred wreath of Advent

A Hundred Years On (a nod to Wells, Kipling and Edmonds)

A hundred years have rolled on by
Still we remember all who died
In trenches, air, on sea and sand
For our homeland ~ for our homeland

Was said, "The war to end all wars"
Will blood be spilled for evermore?
Have we not learned, from their regret?
"Lest we forget ~ lest we forget"

The bugle calls, the tears they fall
For us they bravely gave their all
Their tomorrows, for our todays
We throw away ~ we throw away

Let's now finally, warfare cease
Instead let's learn to live in peace
So that their deaths were not in vain
Let love remain ~ let love remain
