Patter Merchant (haiku)

he filled in the gaps
her soul so wanted to hear

Significant

It happened six seconds from now
The world as we knew it ended
Human species became extinct....
What have we learned; what do we know?
What difference will we achieve?
Will our footprint be washed away?

We are but a blink of time's eye
A dandelion spore on breeze
A dust particle in sunlight
A grain within the Sahara
A plankter in our Blue Planet
A platelet in all living veins

Although to someone - everything
A ray of hope in the abyss
A catalyst to affect change
A scientist who invents cures
A hero who protects the weak
Insignificant........LOVE is not!

Sight

Sight

His
hands
are his
eyes,  blind from
birth,  and his mind sees
clearly; tactiles, sounds, scents, flavours
Beauty is experienced through his heightened  senses

Scent
of
roses,
rain's fresh taste,
velvet's soft caress,
sweet melodic song of the birds
and passionate words of poetry transcend from Braille,

He
lost
nothing,
In fact I
wonder, through his lack
of sight, does he perceive more awe
Does sight blind others to much that life has to offer?

Child-like Daydreams

There is still a little doe-eyed, young girl that nestles deep within the depths of me
Silently peaking out through the keyhole of life's grand door at all the wonder
Chasing alabaster faces and shapes within the clouds; in awe of what I see
I revel in day-dreams, myths, childhood fables, fantasies and legends of the like
All grown up on the outside and somewhat worn by life's realities sharp knife
Undettered and steadfast; my innocence of thought and feeling intact, despite.

Like Alice in 'Through The Looking Glass' I wish to frequent majestic lands of myth
To ride upon clouds of candy floss and cotton wool, feel stardust between my toes
Jump, soar, fly with wings of amber embroidered lace; from the highest chalk white cliff
Visit the notorious Never Never Land and become a salty, sea-worthy pirate, for a day
I'd find Enid Blyton's 'Faraway Tree' and sit beguiled upon the hovering 'Wishing Chair'
Hitch a ride in a silver, tin foil spaceship to the galaxy, sun and star-studded Milky Way

Follow a trail of candy, cake, pretzels and popcorn like Hansel and Gretel did before
Wear a hood of sanguine velvet given by my grand-mama and thwart the sly old gnarly wolf
Climb the dark green luscious beanstalk until my legs grow tired and can climb no more
Sail away in a mahogany boat with 'The Owl And The Pussy Cat' on a tranquil turquoise sea
I'd pay the three bears' thatched cottage a visit and don the 'Emperor's New Clothes'
My princess status confirmed, as from under a multicoloured patchwork, I'd declare the pea.

Skipping to the Emerald City in gingham and ruby attire, accompanied by courageous friends
Take a picnic to the Hundred Acre Wood and go for a spin in Mr Toad's fabulous motor car
Sliding down eternal rainbows of vibrant, fluorescent colours within a kaleidoscope lens
I'd befriend a tawny wooden boy-like puppet, whose nose grows long through words of ill
Whistling while working, my house would become immaculate with the aid of woodland friends
Eating toot sweets, magic moon cheese and levitating bubble gum until I've had my fill

I'd flee the ball in a chauffeur-driven pumpkin, pulled by suited mice wearing ebony shiny shoes
Go bottling dreams aplenty with 'The BFG'; search for 'The Gruffalo' within 'The Enchanted Wood'
Cast down my hair from a turret and be kissed by a handsome prince to break my snooze
Anyway, it's time for me to depart from the fairy realm, where unicorns do bask and play
The tide has turned, the sky's now drawn violet and 'Huckleberry Finn' grows fractious
It's time to awaken and face the humdrum normality of a real, down to earth, big girl day!

Respect Diversity

Each bulb an individual
Fashioned from wire, copper and glass
All varying in their wattage
Size, shape, fittings, lustre and hue

Some enhance visibility
Enlighten; make the unseen clear
Others create, emulate mood
Highlight danger, guide, give a cue

All fragile in disposition
Each one relevant and with task
Open to manipulation
Some are bayonet and some screw

The point is - all are relevant
Even when dimmed, or beneath shade
As with us, current flows through them
Once shattered can't be fixed... made new

So like bulbs treat people with care
Celebrate unique qualities
Respect their diverse attributes
Appreciate all, not a few

My Precious Angel Boy!

My baby boy, so clear and true,
into my yearning arms you flew
No agenda, no expectations within your eyes
Your shape, your stature, small in size
Your smell, your skin, your feet, your hair
you embodied to me all that is fair

The love that enveloped me at your birth
is truly why I frequent the earth
My heart, it beats and yet is still
My eyes and soul can have no fill
of gazing at your beauty and grace;
your new but yet so familiar face

I love you so with all my might
Forever, unconditionally, I would fight
I love you more than words can express
You will want for nothing, I confess
My truly angelic, amazing first-born
Worth the pain, when from me you were torn

For you, nothing will ever be good enough
I'll keep you so near, not beyond my cuff
Oh thank you Lord or Life or Earth
for giving me the ultimate thing of worth

Addicted (mirror cinquain)

Addicted

Wanting
Yearning, craving
Your touch, your smell, your taste....
Licking, biting, teasing, your lust;
Fervour

Left me
Fantasising
Addicted; needing to
Quench; satisfy my thirst for you
Once more

Pandora's Box (Crown Cinquain)

She should
have known better
than to take glimpses inside
her Pandora's box of hidden
secrets

What she
saw reminded
her she still craved true love
Deep within, her forgotten dreams
shone still

The pain
struck her heart like
an axe, made her soul bleed
crimson tides; virile years wasted
lost.... gone!

She tried
desperately
to close the lid; to darn
her gaping heart; to file and store
yearnings

Wishes,
fantasies; hope
deluded, she tried to
regain control of emotions
exposed

The In-betweens

Inspired by Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening
BY ROBERT FROST

The In-betweens

You've miles to go before you sleep
Yet nature's beauty, time to drink
A masterpiece for you to keep
Within your mind; treasure it, deep

Nature's wonder makes egos shrink
Reminds us, we are but one leaf
Gives us food for thought, time to think
Regains our place, keeps us in sync

Life's great journey is all too brief
One chance to live; make real, dreams
Gift from God, whatever belief
Stolen moments; become the thief

To make a crust we must for means
Keep life's balance; use less machines
Pass on the awe within your genes
Don't miss life's joy; look in between
