When I Was Five.

When I was five I’d pretend to be
A salty pirate upon the sea
Using Mum’s food ladle for my hook
And on treasure hunts, I’d test my luck.

Our washing basket, a ship to me
When I was five I’d pretend to be
A mermaid with silk pillowcase tail
Vibrantly Ariel’s song I’d wail.

Sticky stars and glitter hearts on face
Custard pie tin bra... still love the taste
When I was five I’d pretend to be
An astronaut in strange galaxies.

Blast off to space in my cardboard box
Colander helmet completed look
In Dads giant space boots... I’d roam free
When I was five I’d pretend to be.
